Pet of the Month

Glover Cleaning – Pet of the Month

We're reinstituting "Pet of the Month", and to get us started is the beautiful Coco.  Kim Curran, the owner of Coco, is a valued customer and friend of Glover Cleaning.  She has graced us with her beautiful kitten, who is a Scottish Fold.  This breed is known for its friendly and agreeable personality and is a very sought after pet.

We want to thank Kim for sharing these photos and for her patronage to Glover Cleaning.  Kim we hope that you have many years of happiness with this little guy!!

Cleaning a Closet

1. Pull Out What You Don't Want Or Need – This doesn't have to be a glum process—think of it as going shopping in your closet!  Try on the clothes you haven't worn in a while. Would you buy them again? If so, they're keepers. (They should fit, be in style, and not need major repairs.) As for the rest, donate or consign it. If your weight tends to fluctuate, get the clothes that don't currently fit out of your closet and into storage elsewhere—maybe in plastic tubs in your basement. Remember: Your closet should be prime real estate, solely devoted to  clothes you currently wear.

2. Categorize

  • Hanging — pants, button-ups, shirts, long items
  • Folded – tee-shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, jeans, shorts, sweats

3. Color-coordinate within each category- Arrange clothes left to right, white to black or light to dark.

4. Get matching hangers – When all your hangers are uniform you save space and have a great-looking closet. (I'm partial to those thin velvety ones; they're compact, clothes stay on them, and they prevent unsightly shoulder bumps.)

5. Hang belts, ties, and scarves – A pull-out rack is ideal for hanging these items. It'll save space and time and keep everything neat and tidy. Hooks work well too.

6. Use drawers – forundergarments, socks, hosiery, jewelry, and pashminos. Divider kits are a particularly handy tool for keeping socks and undergarments organized.

7. Use shelves – whenever possible. They're better than drawers because items that are folded and stacked neatly on shelves or in cubbyholes are easy to access–you don't have to go digging for your stuff. Shelves work particularly well for purses, jeans, tee-shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, shorts, and sweats.

Having things clean and organized saves time.  That is what Glover Cleaning is all about, giving you back time with yourself, family, all the things that matter to you.  Coming home to clean and organized home makes life just a bit easier.

Cleaning Stainless Steel

Here at Glover Cleaning, a Utah maid service, we know that cleaning can be a chore.  We hope this tip is useful.

Stainless steel is the material that people want on their sinks, fixtures, and sinks.  The reasons are many, durability and resistance to stain is high on the list.  But it is the look and feel that gives your kitchen that extra zing to your kitchen.  Stainless steel requires a bit of a delicate touch, to ensure that the shine of that polish lasts.  Here are a few tips to help you take care of your home.

There are a few materials around the house that you should avoid when cleaning your stainless steel.  The first material is bleach or any product that contains bleach.  Bleach has a nasty reaction with the metal producing a grey blemish.  The long term effects of bleach is rust to the steel.  Abrasive cleaners are also a big no-no, so put away the steel wool and brushes as well.  The polish gets scratched and begins the descent of the metal.

The best way to clean your appliances and fixtures is with a clean and lint free cloth.  To remove fingerprints dampen your cloth and squeeze out excess water before you clean the surface.  Drying thoroughly will ensure that you don’t have water spots and a nice finish.

Now if there is food splatter or grease that won’t come off with the damp cloth.  Add a few drops of mild detergent and that should be sufficient.  Sometimes on a sink you will have food that is burned or dried on so you are unable to clean with the above methods.  Make a paste with baking soda and water to the constituency of toothpaste.  Be careful not to scratch the surface as baking soda is mildly abrasive.  Let it soak if the mixture is unable to clean sufficiently.

We hope you found this useful, until later this is Glover Cleaning signing off.

Glover Cleaning Meets New Friends

In April this year, Glover Cleaning attended a convention hosted by www.arcsi.org where we met successful business owners in the cleaning industry interested in collaborating and sharing ideas about how to improve their businesses.  One business owner we met, and knew we wanted to emulate was Teresa Ward of Teresa's Family Cleaning in Long Island, New York.  We were able to chat with her for maybe about half an hour at the event, but knew she was a wealth of information.

In hopes of improving our cleaning department, I sent Teresa an email to see if she’d be open to a visit by Eric Villarreal and me so we could pick her brain a little.  The answer wasn’t only yes, it was absolutely yes, and an invite to stay in her home while there and an offer to pick us up.  I couldn’t believe it.

Well, we just got back from New York and were blown away.  Teresa was named 2009, New York State Small Business Person of the Year by the United States Small Business Administration, and she deserved it.  Not only does she run a great business, she’s a great member of her community and provides an incredible amount of charitable services, integrating her efforts to do well, and to do good.  Her giving ranges from cancer patients to Habitat for Humanity.  The organizations she participates in range from the standard Chambers of Commerce to mentoring for women owned businesses.  She’s the epitome of the Golden Rule.    I highly recommend viewing her website, run by one of her great staff, Margaret, to see all that they do for their community, www.teresasfamilycleaning.com.

So, fresh from New York, we hope to bring some of this goodness to our community in Salt Lake, Utah.  You can expect from us to continue to provide great cleaning services.  What you will begin to see is more effective interactions with our office staff, and your patronage of us enabling us to both do well and do good.  Teresa’s, and many members of ARCSI, have shown us that this should be the case.

Thank you Teresa’s Family Cleaning and thank you ARCSI for the great examples.  We hope to measure up.  You’ve been awesome so far.

Utah Maid Service Cleans a Refrigerator

Cleaning a Refrigerator

Your refrigerator has the important job of keeping your food safe from germs.  It is easy to forget that casserole in the back or keep shoving that BBQ chicken aside as you look for more recent food to eat.  However, soon the environment in your refrigerator can become hazardous if you leave food to slowly rot.  Here at Glover Cleaning we can provide a Utah maid service to handle any of your cleaning needs, even a refrigerator with last year’s pudding in the back.

Regular cleaning can prevent unnecessary illness and ensure that you have enough room for all of your family’s needs.

Here is a list of steps to take to get the most thorough cleaning:

  1. Turn down the thermostat and unplug the refrigerator.
  2. Store all food worth keeping in a cooler or second unit if available.
  3. Remove all trays and draws, you can clean them at the kitchen sink or wherever it is more convenient.  Be sure to use a cleaning agent that is anti-bacterial.
  4. With the unit empty take a rag and clean out the grooves and sides taking a special interest in the nooks the drawers cover up.
  5. Now clean the outside of the unit.
  6. After everything is clean install drawers and trays.  Plug the unit back in and turn the thermostat up to its original setting.

As a side note, make sure to give yourself enough time to let the freezer defrost.  After you have plugged in the refrigerator wait at least an hour before returning food.

Basic housekeeping can be overwhelming, but with Glover Cleaning, your Utah maid service, having an organized and clean home is not only possible, but it is also well worth it.

Behind the Scenes Footage…

As Jim Nantz says, “Hello friends.”  Since we are posting some follow up information to our post last week about Shawn Powell’s efforts to make the Utah Open, and the sponsorship of him by Glover Maintenance, I thought that intro was appropriate.

The cleaning team at Glover Maintenance is working on an ad we’ll post to promote our maid services and such.  Since I wrote the script, in a miraculous and totally unexpected way, we found ourselves at a golf course as part of the ad.

We had Shawn play Adam Smith, the author of Wealth of Nations. Since he’s Scottish, I placed him on the golf course.  Anyhow, Andrew Braden is our director for the commercial and while they were working on the shoot, I took some behind the scenes footage.  Here are two of the better pieces, in my opinion.

Hope you have some fun watching!

Fun Times at Glover Maintenance BBQ

Water balloon tosses, marshmallow races, horse shoes, bounce houses, raffles, and good food—not just a list of some of my favorite things, but also some of what was enjoyed at our company BBQ.  This post is written mainly for our team so they can get pictures from the event and remember some of the good times.

The turn out was great at about 140 people.  We had great representation from each of our divisions: Landscape Maintenance, Plumbing and Heating, and Cleaning.  It was a lot of work and we want to especially thank Kim Matz for the planning and the work in getting it all set up.

I think the highlight was the balloon toss for the adults.  There was definite reluctance from the adults in doing it, but once we got everybody off the picnic benches and lined up, it was a lot of fun.  We’ve included the pictures for review.

Hopefully, the cleaners appreciated being able to just show up to the event and leave when it was over; no clean up required before of after the event on their part (seeing as that’s most of their job during work hours—cleaning up for events, or after them).  In that way, the event was maid easy (couldn’t resist the pun).

Thanks to the team that makes it fun, the customers that make it possible to support our families, and our families that give us a reason to work.
