The Importance Of Dusting

Did you know the average home accumulates about 40 pounds of dust in a year?

There is a saying that goes "A house becomes a home when you can write "I love you" on the furniture."

Dusting is one of those chores that we all know needs to be done, but somehow we have a hard time getting to it.  Dusting your home and business office can give you great health benefits.

An allergy to dust mites can cause chronic congestion or even asthma.  98% of dust allergens are inhaled from the bedroom and bed areas.  Pillows and mattresses should be covered with dust proof covers.  Bedding should be washed bi-weekly with hot water.

A microfiber dusting product and damp rag are better for dusting than a dry cloth.  Vacuum cleaners with double-layered microfilter bag or high efficiency Hepa filters will help remove dust from carpet and upholstered furniture.  Bedrooms should be cleaned once a week and ceiling fixtures such as fans and lights should also be dusted.

Today’s homes are contaminated by a wide variety of Modern pollutants:  There are pesticides, hydrocarbons, synthetic chemicals, flame-retardants, paint and heavy metals and PBDEs.

Dust gives these toxins something to stick to so our exposure is prolonged. Studies have found that controlling dust and maintaining a somewhat dust free home reduces our exposure to household toxins.

Of course reoccurring  cleaning from Glover Cleaning helps fight the battle of dusting and gives you more time to enjoy your life.

How to Remove Mold from Your Shower like an Expert Housekeeper

As we all know, mildew is an annoying, stubborn fungus that grows as a result of too much humidity.  When it grows on the grout between shower tiles it can be tough to remove. Luckily, there are three easy ways to rid your shower of mildew using kitchen ingredients.

These squeaky clean tips are straight from the Glovercleaning experts:

3 Ways to Remove Mildew from Shower Grout Using Kitchen Ingredients

Grout is made of a mixture of cement and sand.  Overtime the water barrier dissolves with constant exposure to moisture, and mold and mildew form as a result.

  • Option #1: You can remove mildew from tile grout by pouring ½ cup of baking soda in a bucket and mixing it with a gallon of water. Splash the baking soda solution on the affected areas and scrub thoroughly.  Let the solution sit for an hour to loosen the mildew.  Then rinse, reapply if necessary and repeat. For stubborn mildew, let the solution soak overnight.
  • Option #2: Soak paper towels in white vinegar and place directly on stubborn mildew spots.  Let the vinegar sit for 15 minutes and then scrub.  Rinse and repeat.
  • Option #3: Mix a solution with 1 cup bleach to 5 cups of cool clean water in a spray bottle. Soak the mildewed grout completely and let the solution soak for 15 minutes. Scrub vigorously and rinse with cool water. Repeat if necessary.

Charitable Beginnings

As we have previously noted we are embarking on a company-wide initiative to be more involved in the community through charitable giving and participation.  In this spirit we are launching “Charitable Beginnings”, this month we are continuing our work with Toys for Tots and the Utah Food Bank.  It is our goal to gather 100lbs of food and 100 gifts this next month.  It is ambitious, but we feel that with your help we can accomplish these awesome goals.

We just gave thanks for everything that we’ve been given, this past weekend.  We here at Glover Cleaning, want to use those good feelings and take a running start at giving back. We hope this will propel us into the New Year and beyond for participation in charity work.  There is a lot of work to do to reach our goals, but with your help we can make that happen.  Take a moment and reflect on this past weekend and think about how you can help.  Hope to see you at the food and toy bin soon.  Thanks for choosing to be a part of the Glover family.

Ps.  Just a friendly reminder that all food and toys can be dropped off at our Bluffdale location.
